New Name Announcement

New Name Announcement

In our services on April 21/22, Norm gave an exciting announcement regarding our name change:

I am excited to share a quick update regarding our name change.

Out of the 75+ possible new church names that were suggested, we narrowed that to 5 names about a month ago, and then two weeks ago, we strongly sensed the Lord leading us to one particular name. However, our elders agreed together to take two more weeks to pray and seek the Lord some more for confirmation of this new church name, or a redirection from Him.

We are very excited, enthusiastic, and unanimous in our believe and support that God has led us to our new church name and I am happy to share it with you. Harvest Bible Chapel will be changing, effective September 2018 to Redemption Bible Chapel.

We love this name because:

Redemption is such a rich Biblical and theological word. Listen to just a few of the passages of Scripture which teach about this amazing word.

  • Ephesians 1:7-8: In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he
    lavished upon us.
  • Hebrews 9:12: He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus
    securing an eternal redemption.
  • Colossians 1:13-14: He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we
have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
  • Romans 3:23-25: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood.

We believe this one word summarizes so well what has been the heartbeat and core of our church for so many years. It is the crux of our preaching and all we do. What a joy to refer to our church as Redemption – our message, our heart, our joy, and our hope!

Bible – we are a Bible church and we believed we needed to keep this in our name. We are unashamed to be known as a Bible church! We are sold-out to God’s Word, praying God would keep us forever a Bible Church.

Chapel – we originally had thought we would go with “Church” rather than Chapel. But … we believe keeping “Bible Chapel” keeps at least some consistency with our old name, Harvest Bible Chapel, and we think the name just flows better as Redemption Bible Chapel, than Redemption Bible Church.

We will begin a series of many tasks to implement this new name for our fall kickoff. Signs, printed material, government and web changes, new logos and branding, etc. So lots to do, but we are excited as this is sort of our final step in making the transition from Harvest Bible Fellowship, to being a Great Commission Collective church with the same core, commitments, and values, but an exciting new association and future with the GC Collective.
