Child Dedication

At Redemption London we encourage parents to publicly dedicate their children to the Lord.

What is Child Dedication?

While Child Dedication is not a Biblical command, we believe it helps encourage parents to:

  • Acknowledge their child as a gift from God. (Psalm 127:3-5)
  • Publicly declare their intention to raise their child in a home that will cultivate Christlikeness to give their child an opportunity to know God through a personal relationship with Christ. (Deuteronomy 6:2Ephesians 6:4)
  • Affirm their total dependence upon the Lord. (John 15:5)
  • Ask family, friends and the church community to prayerfully support and hold them accountable to these commitments. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

What child dedication is not

Child dedication will not save your child.

Salvation is the free gift of grace given to a person once they have acknowledged their sin before a holy God and by faith have trusted in Christ alone as their substitute for the payment and forgiveness of their sins.(Ephesians 2:8-9Act 4:12)

Child dedication is not baptism for your child.

Baptism is the public profession of faith that a Christian makes after they have repented and believed in the Gospel message. Once a child is old enough to understand their sin and their need for Christ, then he or she can make a choice to be baptized. (Colossians 2:11-1
